2008 Children's Theater Workshop

The Matthews Opera House sponsors an annual summer theater workshop for grade school children K to 8th. This workshop is open to area children at no charge. The 2008 workshop coordinated in association with The Children's Theatre Company of South Dakota will be held July 21st through July 26th. There will be parts for 50 children as actors and actresses or in the areas of lighting, sound and assisting the directors. This year's production will be "You Look Marvelous", a clever retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's fable. Auditions will be held July 21st at 9 a.m. in the Matthews Opera House, with a closing performance on Saturday, July 26th at 7 p.m. To register or for more information email: info@spearfishartscenter.org.

Arts Midwest : World Fest Tour

In cooperation with Arts Midwest the Spearfish Arts Center is proud to present the 2008 World Fest Tour. During the week of September 22 through 27th, 2008 the Mexican group Los Utrera will be performing workshops in the area schools with a cabaret style public performance on September 27th at 7 pm in the Matthews Opera House. Ticckets will be $10.00. Los Utrera from Veracruz, Mexico will appear and transport the workshop and concert attendees to a fandango, a musical fiesta alive with the traditional Son Jarocho sounds.
