32nd Annual Festival in the Park: General Information

The Festival in the Park is one of the largest outdoor summer arts festivals in the upper Midwest. Over 20,000 people attend this annual event held the third weekend in July. The Festival features over 150 craft, arts and 25 food booths with an emphasis on handmade arts and crafts. All applications are subject to a juried process to ensure quality fine arts and originality. Other features of the Festival include free on stage entertainment through out each day and a beer garden with its own evening entertainment.

The 2009 Festival in the Park will be held on July 17,18 and 19th. Watch for more information.

The 2008 Festival was held on July 18, 19 and 20th.

  • FRIDAY, JULY 18TH .........4:00PM - 8:00PM --- Sneak Preview Night- $5 Wristbands available at the gate or visit The Gallery at 612 Main Street,Bay Leaf Cafe, Spearfish Chamber of Commerce, Exit 14 Phillips 66, Two Pines Espresso Lodge, Maddison's Styling Salon and the Flour Garden to get yours in advance!
  • SATURDAY, JULY 19TH ................9:00AM - 7:00PM --- FREE and Open to the public!
  • SUNDAY, JULY 20TH ..........10:00AM - 4:00PM--- FREE and Open to the public!

The Festival in the Park is located in the beautiful setting of the Spearfish City Park. Parking is limited around the park, but bus shuttles are available on a regular time schedule from several down town locations and parking areas. Camping is also available in the Spearfish City Park campground next to the Festival location.

Saturday evening concert: 4pm to 7pm - Dogs Without Sweaters

Sunday the Northern Hills Barbershoppers strolled.

The beer garden remained open Friday & Saturday nights and will feature: Brandon Flanagan and Friend on Friday night & Brock Finn on Saturday night

Children's Activities:

Boat Building & boat racing plus other activities. Stop by the Children's Tent on Saturday and Sunday!

Saturday July 19th,
9:30 - 11:00 am ~ Lets make Bowls!!

Join us in the kids tent (all ages welcome) to make pinch pots, drape mold and paper bowls. All clay bowls made will be donated to the Empty Bowls charity event on October 16th at the Deadwood Social Club. Kids can take their paper bowls home with them!


1- 2:30 pm ~ T-Shirts and Visors-Oh My!!
Join us in the kids tent to paint your own visor or t-shirt! Your choice! All ages welcome.


Sunday July 20th,
10 ~ 11:30 ~ ITS A BOATING PARTY!!

Let's get together at the kids tent and make boats! We will be hammering so all children participating must please bring an adult to assist in the process. All supplies will be provided. Then...
11:30 ~ BOAT RACE!! We will put our boat making to the test down Spearfish Creek. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be awarded prizes. Participation is optional! Gather at the tent at 11:30 and let the race begin!


Shuttle Bus Service:

There was shuttle bus service Friday evening as well as Saturday and Sunday From All pickup points - every 30 minutes.

Pick-up points are:

  • High School Parking Lot
  • Hickory House on 10th & Oriole St.
  • City Parking Lot on 7th St.
  • Passion Play Lower Parking Lot off Meier Avenue
