The Spearfish Arts Center at 612 Main Street is the home of a vibrant community arts organization. Anchored in the historic Matthews Opera House, the Arts Center boasts a modern art gallery on the main street level, an active community theater program and a variety of arts education programs. The Spearfish Arts Center is also the sponsor of one of the largest outdoor art festivals in the upper Midwest. Held the third weekend of July, the Festival in the Park features over 200 arts and food vendors. This annual event, now 31 years old, draws over 32,000 people to its location in the beautiful Spearfish City Park.

The Matthews Opera House, which celebrated its centennial year in 2006, is open to the public for tours daily by appointment. Stop in The Gallery to arrange a tour or call (605) 642-7973. The Gallery, located on the Main Street level, features art work, pottery, jewelry and books from local artists and craftsmen and is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00-5:00.
