Spearfish Arts Center 33rd Annual Winter Art Show Applications Available
The 33rd Annual Winter Art Show will be held in the Matthews Opera House from Thursday, February 23rd through Saturday, February 25th. Applications are now available on the Spearfish Arts Center’s website – spearfishartscenter.org – or in The Gallery, 612 Main Street in downtown Spearfish. Entries accepted include all original 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional Fine Art and Craft Work. Judging divisions are Professional Adult, Amateur Adult, Senior High, Junior High, Grade School, and Kindergarten & Under. Jan 8 & 9 – Foreign Film Festival
The 2012 Spearfish Arts Center’s Foreign Film Series kick-offs with the movie “Eat Drink Man Woman” on Sunday, January 8th at 2 PM and Monday, January 9th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $8 at the door or a punch card of 4 admissions for any of the four upcoming films in the series can be purchased in advance for $25. Jan 11 – Bellman Brown Bag
On Wednesday, January 11th at noon, the Bellman Brown Bag Series will feature Jeremy Schultes, Administrator at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center, a 120-bed skilled nursing facility specializing in rehabilitation and skilled nursing care.  Please join us to learn about the services and care at Dorsett Healthcare Center.  All talks are held in the fireplace room of the Matthews Opera House. January 21 – Matthews Opera House presents the Black Hills Symphony Chamber Players
The Black Hills Symphony Chamber Players will be performing at the Matthews Opera House on Saturday, January 21st at 7:30 PM as part of the 2011-2012 Subscription Series. Jan 29 & 30 – Foreign Film Festival

Feb 2 – Sarah Rogers Print Signing
Local artist Sarah Rogers will be at the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education (SPFE) 3 Cheers Gala on Thursday, February 2nd from 5:30 – 7:30 PM to sign the new limited edition giclee print “Mary had a Little Lamb” she created exclusively for the Spearfish Arts Center and the SFPE. Prints are available for purchase that evening or at The Gallery, 612 Main Street in downtown Spearfish. The limited edition prints cost $150 plus tax and 100% of the proceeds benefit the Spearfish Arts Center and SFPE. Feb 8 – Bellman Brown Bag
On Wednesday, February 8th at noon, the Bellman Brown Bag Series will feature International Students at BHSU moderated by Dr. James Fleming. The talk will feature several current international students discussing their experience of living and getting an education in a new culture.  All talks are held in the fireplace room of the Matthews Opera House. Feb 9, 10, 11, 12 – Matthews Opera House presents “The Red Velvet Cake War” Community Theatre Production
The Matthews Opera House will be presenting the community theatre production “The Red Velvet Cake War” on Thursday through Saturday, February 9 – 11th at 7:30 PM and on Sunday, February 12th at 2:00 PM. This riotous funny Southern-fried comedy about a family reunion gone out of control is directed by Max Merchen. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for youth. Doors to the box office open one hour before the show. Feb 23, 24, 25 – Spearfish Arts Center presents the 33rd Annual Spearfish Winter Arts Show
The 33rd Annual Spearfish Winter Art Show will be held at the Matthews Opera House at 614 Main Street downtown Spearfish on Thursday, February 23rd from 12 – 7 PM and Friday & Saturday, February 24th & 25th from 12 -6 PM. A reception and awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, February 23rd at 6:00 PM. Admission is free. March 3 – Matthews Opera House presents Tonic Sol-fa

March 10 & 17th - Introduction to Digital Photography Class 9am-1pm
Instructor Bob Wilson, proprietor of Frogworks Photography and graduate of the Rocky Mountain School of Photography.  This two day class is geared to those who have or are thinking about purchasing a Digital SLR camera and want to do more than just shoot on the 'auto' setting.  Participants will learn about focus, metering, exposure, white balance, using shutter speed and depth of field, equipment and be shown basic composition techniques to help make your photos 'pop' and discover what all those buttons do and numbers mean. Attendance is limited, cost is $90 ($40 deposit required)
